Cllr. Peter Coyle first became a Member of Fingal Co Council in 1994, representing the Malahide Ward. In the 1999 local elections he topped the poll and was elected on the first count. In 2004, Peter again topped the poll with 34% first preference votes.

Peter was elected Cathaoirleach (Chairperson/Mayor) of Fingal County Council for 2004-2005. His current representation includes:

  • Membership of the Boards of Management of three Community Schools......Portmarnock, Malahide, and The Donahies.
  • alternate Member of the EU Committee of the Regions
  • Member of Dublin North City Fringe Forum
  • Member of Fingal Joint Policing Committee

As leader of the local authority, Peter was to the forefront in upholding proper planning and development, particularly during consideration of the new 2005-2011 Fingal County Development Plan.

Peter Coyle, by profession, is a Chartered Textile Technologist (C.Text A.T.I.). He has worked as a manufacturing/business consultant with the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards (IIRS)/EOLAS/FORBAIRT/Enterprise Ireland. He spent 2.5 years working for United Nations International Development Organization (UNIDO) in Botswana, and also carried out a short assignment in Malawi.

He is married to Mauritius born Ghislaine, a maths graduate from Leicester University. They have two daughters, Linda and Shirley. Linda is a practicing Clinical Speech and Language Therapist, married to Ciaran Moynihan, and has also successfully completed a post-graduate (MA) course in Music Therapy. Shirley is an Electronics Engineer, and recently attained a Ph.D. in N.U.I. Maynooth. Dr Shirley works in DCU's Electronics Research unit.
