Welcome for library announcement

Councillor Peter Coyle and Senator Brendan Ryan have welcomed the announcement that the situation regarding a Government embargo on staff recruitment, whereby Fingal County Council could not recruit staff for the refurbished libraries at Malahide and Garristown, has now been resolved.
Councillor Coyle said : "The Labour Party in Dublin North ran a campaign to get the libraries opened and we are thrilled that we have been successful. It was ludicrous that Fingal County Council spent €7m upgrading and refurbishing the libraries only for them to be closed and unused by people in the areas. During our campaign the anger of local people was palpable and it is very welcome that staff are now being recruited for the short term with a full service being provided in the near future. While the news is certainly very welcome I would urge that the provision of a full service would be made a priority."
Senator Brendan Ryan said: "Significant amounts of public monies were spent on work carried out on the libraries and for them to sit idle made no sense whatsoever particularly given the rising levels of illiteracy levels. This is very welcome news and I am delighted that soon the public will be enjoying the wonderful new facilities."
