Labour to publish Bill to restore inquiry powers to committees

The Labour Party has published the text of a Private Members Bill designed to address defects in current legislation governing powers of the Dail and Seanad, through their committees, to conduct inquiries into matters of public concern.

It is now widely agreed that, arising from the Abbelylara judgement, changes in the law are desirable if the Oireachtas is to be allowed to establish a Dirt style inquiry the circumstances that led to the banking crisis.. The Labour Party will be separately tabling a Dail motion calling for the establishment of such an inquiry.
