Tánaiste expresses condolences on death of Michael Begley

26 March 2012

Statement by Eamon Gilmore TD

I was very saddened to hear of the death of Michael Begley who served with distinction as a TD for Kerrry South, Parliamentary Secretary and Minister of State.

Born into a farming family, Mr Begley worked both as a carpenter and secondary school teacher before becoming a TD. After his retirement from politics, he remained active in the local Dingle community.

I know he had a great love of sports and was particularly closely involved in greyhound racing in Kerry.

My thoughts today are with his wife Eleanor, daughter Cathy, sons Micheál and Séan, his grandchildren, family and friends.
