Labour unveils Rabbitte's 100 day plan

Labour Leader, Pat Rabbitte has set out his plan for the first 100 days of his term in government, if elected to office by the people.

He launched the plan while unveiling Labour's latest ad campaign entitled:

'We're ready for change
are you with us?'

'I have set out in my five commitments for change the key actions I will take in government.

"The election is now upon us and the message I would like to send out to the Irish people is that I have made my plans for government, and we're ready, if the Labour Party is returned to government.

"The plan I have set out for the first 100 days of the new government make clear that we intend to move quickly in government to make a set of changes that will begin to have an immediate effect on all our quality of life.

"We need you to make a change and so I am asking, are with us?'


PAT RABBITTE: FIRST 100 DAYS

Within 100 days of being in office, Labour will:

1. Cancel all plans for superprivate clinics.

2. Instruct the HSE to identify locations for additional hospital beds.

3. Appoint a Director to roll-out a programme to deliver pre-school education, based in the Office of the Minster for Children.

4. Instruct the Garda commissioner to implement the civilianization programme and begin deployment of 1,000 additional community Gardai.

5. Make a Government decision that the means test for carers will be
abolished in our first budget and Social Welfare Bill.

6. Instruct the National Treasury Management Agency to establish a fund for the 'Begin to Buy Scheme'.

7. Create a Department of Energy, Climate Change and the Environment.

8. Publish a Bill to set the 0.7% of GNP ODA target in law.

9. Instruct Dublin Bus to order first tranche of new buses.

10. Double capitation fees for primary schools for 2007/2008 school year.
