Costello resumes Mater A&E protest - Saturday

Issued : Friday 1 June, 2007

Statement by Joe Costello TD
Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade with responsibility for Trade and Development

Labour Party Deputy for Dublin Central, Joe Costello, will resume his protest tomorrow, Saturday June 2 at the Mater Hospital, to highlight the continuing A&E crisis there.

Deputy Costello said: "Failings in our health services were a massive issue in the recent election, nowhere more so than in my own constituency of Dublin Central. We continue to be bedevilled by the problem of A&E patients having to wait on trolleys for days.

"The situation in A&E departments is the most visible sign of the deep seated problems in the Irish health service. Overcrowding, poor hygiene, long delays, indignity and discomfort for patients, many of them elderly, staff working heroically in impossible circumstances - the problems are well known.

"I will continue to highlight these issues until they are resolved."
