Brian Lenihan: the Grinch who stole Christmas in March

Issued : Tuesday 7 April, 2009

Statement by Alan Kelly TD
Minister of State, Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport with responsibility for Public & Commuter Transport

Brian Lenihan is placing the burden of Fianna Fail mistakes on the backs of honest hard working people all over the country.

For those on the margins, they have callously cut the Christmas bonus for people on social welfare. He has effectively cancelled Christmas for half a million families in March.

This cold move will provide a fillip for unscrupulous money-lenders who will take advantage of the pressures of Christmas. In the midst of the wider discussion of the budget, I hope this development is remembered.
