Phelan welcomes move to re-examine changes to disability payments

Statement by Ann Phelan TD
"I welcome the decision by the Minister of Social Protection, Joan Burton, T.D., to re-examine the proposed changes in disability payments.
"I am more than aware that there is a requisite to tidy up the innumerable problems evident within the Social Welfare system in terms of entitlements however, it is imperative that we protect the most vulnerable.
"I, as did other members of the Labour Parliamentary Party, took the opportunity to express my grave concerns to the Minister directly yesterday regarding this matter. I am glad that the Minister has taken the reservations and concerns of individuals, families and groups into consideration, as well as those of her colleagues.
"There is a lot of unrest in terms of this year's budget, but I thank the Minister for taking the opportunity to re-evaluate the potential effects of these proposals".
