Tara towers planning refusal a victory for common sense

Statement by Cllr Oisín Quinn
Labour Party Candidate for Dun Laoghaire, Cllr Oisin Quinn, has expressed his satisfaction at Dublin City Council’s refusal for the proposed 25 storey building on the site of the Tara Towers Hotel. Cllr Quinn said the decision vindicated the hard work of local residents in opposing the application.
Cllr Quinn commented, “I am delighted that the City Council Planners decided that this building by reason of its height is inappropriate for a residential area of established character and that it would set an unacceptable precedent for tall buildings along this part of the coast contrary to the Development Plan.
“As a Councillor who helped shape the current Dublin City Development Plan this decision is very welcome.
“Should the developer appeal I will file a vigorous submission defending the City Council decision and will restate the compelling reasons behind the policy in our Development Plan.
“If there is no appeal, the Developer will have to go back to the drawing board. This decision cannot be circumvented by resubmitting the application with a tweak here and an adjustment there. Locals must therefore be vigilant as no matter what further application is made there will doubtless be significant issues about density, traffic, height, and open spaces.
“The original plan was totally unsuitable. Today’s decision is not just a victory for local residents, but is also a victory for common sense.”
