Labour Candidate Rebecca Moynihan Calls for Security Officers To Be Installed on Dublin Bus

Issued : Sunday 11 January, 2009

Labour South West Inner City Local election candidate, Rebecca Moynihan, called for Dublin bus to investigate the possibility of installing security guards on high risk Dublin Bus routes at night, following the incident on Saturday night when a Dublin bus driver was attacked and the bus was hijacked with passengers on board.

Commenting Ms Moynihan says "the incident on Cork Street on Saturday night shows the dangers that drivers and passengers are put in when travelling on public transport at night. It is unacceptable that both the driver and passengers were put in such a vulnerable position".

"Dublin Bus is very lucky that no members of the public were seriously injured when the hijacker gained control of the bus" continues the candidate.

In the light of this and a large number of other similar incidents in which drivers and passengers have been injured Ms Moynihan is calling on Dublin Bus to immediately conduct a safety review of its operations.
