Valhalla site (Clondalkin) update

Issued : Tuesday 27 April, 2010

At a meeting of the Lucan-Clondalkin Area Committee on 27 April, I asked the manager for an update on the Valhalla site on Watery Lane in Clondalkin village.  I also asked for local residents to be briefed on the plans if the resources for development in the area are in train.

Approval for the sheltered housing project has been received from the Department of Environment and Local Government under the Capital Assistance Scheme.  In addition, the scheme has also been chosen by the Department for funding under a special programme for demonstration projects, 'Towards Carbon Neutral' so all the appropriate resources have been made available to proceed with the scheme.  A Design Team has been appointed and the Council are working in conjunction with Clanmil Voluntary Housing Association who specialise in this type of sheltered accommodation. Drawings are currently being prepared to enable tenders to be invited.

The Manager undertook to contact the Local Residents' Association and local councillors to arrange a briefing.  It was stressed that this would be for informational purposes only, i.e. no changes will be made to the plans at this stage.  The plans have been approved by South Dublin County Council and the Department of Environment and Local Government.

Background: The development at Valhalla is planned to accomodate physically disabled people and their families.
