Tackling litter black spots in Clondalkin
Issued : Tuesday 27 April, 2010
At a meeting of the Lucan-Clondalkin Area Committee on 27 April, I asked the Manager to report on plans to tackle the litter black spots in Clondalkin.
The report in full:
The Environmental Services Department recently met with members of the Lucan-Clondalkin Area Committee. This has resulted in the members identifying specific areas which may require additional or more frequent attention. These locations are currently being reviewed to establish what actions are necessary in addition to existing schedules and what can be done within existing resources.
Areas which require regular clean-ups are patrolled by local Anti-Litter Wardens and when suitable evidence is found, enforcement action under the Litter Pollution Act (1997, as amended) is taken. The area will also then be listed with the Cleansing Section or Parks Department to remove the litter/dumped material (the Cleansing Section generally covers roadways and footpaths while the Parks Department maintains public open spaces). The Cleansing Section Areas which are identified as requiring regular clean-ups are scheduled on an increased frequency subject to resources being available.
