Report on proposed N81 upgrade in South Dublin

Issued : Wednesday 1 December, 2010

At a meeting of the Clondalkin Area Committee on 1 December, I asked the Manager for a report on plans to upgrade the N81 road as it goes through our county and the timescale and works involved.

Report:

The proposed scheme extends from Fortunestown in Tallaght to Hollywood in County Wicklow.

The Kildare National Roads Design Office (NRDO) is currently carrying out an Environmental, Economic and Engineering Assessment of all of the route options.  This should lead to a draft route selection by the end of 2010.  The Kildare NRDO would hope to have further public consultation following this in the first quarter of 2011 with a final route selection report in the second quarter of 2011.  It would then be necessary to prepare an environmental impact statement on the preferred route and submit it to An Bord Pleanala for ajudication.  This is unlikely to occur before the end of 2012 and would then be subject to funding being made available.

I will keep constituents up to date on any developments regarding the N81 in South Dublin.
