DUBLIN BUS MUST REINSTATE THE 45 BUS TO THE SEAFRONT.

Issued : Tuesday 26 May, 2009

Ronan McManus has once again called on Dublin Bus to reinstate the bus service to the Seafront and Putland Road areas of Bray.

This issue is being raised with me on a daily basis by many people who depend on the bus to bring them to the shops, church and local post office.  For many elderly people, this is the only way they can get to the shops or to Mass and they have been left stranded by Dublin Bus.

I recently saw the 45 Bus with the ‘Out of Service’ display passing people standing at the bus stop on the Strand Road.  The bus sign at the top of the pole has actually been removed but the pole itself is still there.  Once the bus reached the top of the Putland Road the ‘Out of Service’ display was changed to ’45 Bus’.  It really has come as a shock for the many people who used the 45 bus that they have been left high and dry without a bus service.

Another complaint that I have heard about the 45 bus is that it no longer goes into Dublin City and terminates at Ballsbridge.  This means that anyone from Bray travelling into Dublin will now have to catch two buses.  I certainly cannot see the logic in terminating the 45 bus at Ballsbridge.

It wasn’t too long ago that the people of Bray were serviced with the 45A bus going to the Seafront and the 146 bus travelling from Ballywaltrim to the Dart Station via Boghall Road.  We have a Green Minister for the Environment urging people to use public transport to help cut down on carbon gases while at the same time a Fianna Fail Minister for Transport forcing Dublin Bus to cut back on services and depriving people of their bus service.  This is surely another example of the arrogance, incompetence and mismanagement of the current Government and the people affected by all the cutbacks must make their voices heard on Polling Day.
