Councillor Ronan McManus has expressed his great concern about the weekend maintenance of the Seafront over the summer months.
We all know the great work being carried out by the Council workers in maintaining the Seafront each week from Monday to Friday, and up until this year the Council took on contract staff to clean the Seafront at weekends.
I am very concerned that with the current embargo on recruiting staff, the Council will no longer be able to employ temporary staff and as a result, the Seafront will not be cleaned on Saturdays and Sundays. I know there is very little the Council can do because of the Government embargo but I am calling on the Town Clerk to look in other directions for funding.
Maybe it is possible to get funding from a tourism organisation to employ people to clean and maintain our Seafront at weekends. I believe it is vital that we project the Seafront as a great tourist amenity and we won’t be able to do this if it is heavily littered during the Sumer months. I am contacting the Town Clerk on this issue and hopefully the Council will be able to progress this within the coming weeks.
