“In the run up to Halloween, residents in housing estates throughout Waterford city will be tormented by bangers explding and fireworks blasting outside their doors," said Cllr Ryan.
Senior Citizens, citizens with disability or recovering from illness are particularly vulnerable at this time according to Cllr. Ryan."This can be very distressing for older people in particular, who are now spending more time indoors as the long evenings approach. In the past the constant explosion of bangers has terrified many of these people from even opening their doors after dark. Also these fireworks and bangers are having a detrimental effect on pet animals and in particular guide dogs."
"Furthermore, those involved in the sale of fireworks and bangers have an obligation to check these products for their safety. Each year, despite the best efforts of the Gardaí, imports of dangerous fireworks make their way onto our streets and can cause severe injuries to children."
