Emergency Funding needed for Waterford City Roads

Emergency funding needed for Waterford City Roads - Seamus Ryan

Labour Party Councillor Seamus Ryan has called for emergency funding to be made available to Waterford City Council  to allow for essential road repairs to be carried out in the city.

Cllr Ryan made the call this week following the deterioration of some major roads in the city during the past few weeks.  Figures made available to Cllr Ryan this week ( see table) show that the Roads budget to Waterford City Council has been cut drastically by the government in the last year.  The original allocation to the City Council for roads in 2009 was €2,168,000.  This figure was slashed to €1,335,500 by the government in the Budget last April.

According to Cllr Ryan we are now seeing the result of these cutbacks with the City Council struggling to maintain key roads into the city such as the Old Tramore Road as well as roads such as the Ballycashin Hill which also needs urgent work.

I am calling on the government to make additional funding available to Waterford City Council immediately.
