CARRIGTWOHILL TO GET MULTI MILLION EURO UPGRADE TO WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT

MINISTER of state Sean Sherlock TD has welcomed approval for and upgrade and expansion of the wastewater treatment plant in Carrigtwohill at an estimated cost of €14 million.

The project was sanctioned by Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan this week as part of the Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2012 and when completed will cater for a population equivalent of 60,000 in the Carrigtwohill area.

"This important contract represents continuing capital investment under the water services investment programme to approve the infrastructure in the Cork region. The upgrade will provide modern sewerage infrastructure for Carrigtwohill which will cater for current residential and commercial needs as well as setting a platform for development needs for the foreseeable future," said Minister Sherlock.

Cork County Council has been directed to proceed with the preparation of contract documents for the upgrade of the Carrigtwohill Wastewater plant with a view to seeking tenders for the contract at the earliest possible date.
