Lack of notice to re-route 46a route causes upset and confusion for Monkstown Farm residents

Dublin Bus has removed the 46a bus from travelling through Oliver Plunkett Avenue from Dun Laoghaire to Dublin City.
The decision to re-route the service was taken on ‘Health and Safety’ grounds as buses had, in a number of instances, driven up onto the path.
This decision is of huge concern to the large numbers of elderly residents who live in Monkstown Farm and rely on this service. The decision to alter the service has also been made worse by Dublin Buses apparent failure to properly inform local residents of the decision.
Cllr. Fitzpatrick says, “An elderly gentleman told me that he saw a large group of people who had been waiting for a bus that was never going to arrive. They were waiting at a bus stop that had no information of the change in the route. There was no information of the route change in the local newspapers. Dublin Bus simply put up a few signs at one or two bus stops”.
People are also unhappy that an agreement a number of years ago between residents groups and Dublin Bus has not been honoured, as they see it by the company. At the meeting it was agreed that when buses started using the QBC on Kill Avenue a feeder bus would still operate through Oliver Plunkett Avenue, Monkstown Farm.
Cllr Fitzpatrick says, “ Bus service routing and timetabling is a matter for Dublin Bus however I would ask them to overturn their decision until a compromise has been reached with local residents or at the very least to allow time to inform residents of the route change”.
