Information on the new Residential Parking Zone Scheme for Dún Laoghaire

Issued : Monday 15 November, 2010
Areas : Dún Laoghaire

On Monday the 8th of November Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council voted on a set of proposals put forward by the Council's Transport Special Policy Committee. This committee is made of Local Elected Representatives, Business Representatives, and two public representatives from the Environment, Conservation and Cultural Sector.

The majority of Councillors, including myself, voted in favour of the proposals.

One element of the new Parking Proposals was to introduce, on a trial basis, a Residential Parking Zone Scheme for Dún Laoghaire.

If you would like more information about this scheme please consult the Council's website: http://www.dlrcoco.ie/Roads/ResidentialParkingZoneScheme_Nov10.htm

It was clear from the Transport Special Policy Committee's report and the debate at the November Council meeting, that the Council will need to create additional car parking spaces in Dún Laoghaire town centre. A new multi storey car park is required to enable Dún Laoghaire to compete with other town centres in the South Dublin area.

I will be bringing forward motions to tackle the parking issue to the Dún Laoghaire Area Transport & Planning Committee over the coming months.
