ALLOCATION OF FUNDING FOR POTTERY ROAD IMPROVEMENT SCHEME IS VERY WELCOME NEWS FOR RESIDENTS & BUSINESSES

Issued : Sunday 8 January, 2012
Areas : Deansgrange, Dún Laoghaire, Pottery Road

The announcement on Friday, 6th January 2012, by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council that capital funding has been secured for major improvement works to Pottery Road, Deansgrange, is of huge significance for residents and businesses in the local area.

For nearly thirty years residents, businesses, and public representatives have sought for improvement works to be carried out to Pottery Road. Concerns for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers has consistently driven this issue. Many have compared it to a country road, inappropriate for the high traffic volumes and use of by heavy lorries.

Councillor Stephen Fitzpatrick states “I am delighted for all the residents and businesses in the area that have long campaigned for improvements to Pottery Road. When I heard the news I immediately rang some local residents who were overjoyed with the news. The announcement really marks a positive beginning for 2012. I would like to thank and congratulate The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, the National Transport Authority and AMGEN for contributing to the cost of this scheme.”

Councillor Stephen Fitzpatrick further states “This project is a big investment in Dún Laoghaire and achieves a commitment by the Labour Party and our Fine Gael colleagues on Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to work towards securing funding for this project. Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council expects to be in a position to proceed to tender by the end of the third quarter of 2012 and to be on site in early 2013 with services/utilities relocation works, which will be followed by the road construction works. Scheme completion is expected by end 2014.”
