Political Career:

• Labour candidate in 1989 General Election for Dublin North East.
• Elected to Dublin City Council, 1991, for the Artane Coolock ward.
• Re-elected to Dublin City Council in 1999 for the Donaghmede Raheny ward.
• Leader of the Labour Party Group on Dublin City Council, 1992 to 1998 and 2001 to 2003.
• Chairperson of the Rainbow Civic Alliance for 6 years.
• Elected to Dail Eireann, November, 1992.
• Member of the Public Accounts Committee, Finance and Public Service Committee, Enterprise Trade and Employment Committee and An Coiste Gaeilge during the 27th Dail
• Re-elected to Dail Eireann, June 1997. In 28th. Dail, member of Enterprise Trade and Employment Committee, Social and Family Affairs Committee and Dail Services Committee (Vice-Chair of last two committees).
