EU figures published today, (see below), indicating a doubling in unemployment rates among the under 25s in Ireland, between 2008 and 2009 highlights the extent to which Fianna Fail has betrayed the young people of Ireland.
A broken economy and catastrophic levels of unemployment are the only legacy of the failed Fianna Fáil regime over the last twelve years. Today Labour Youth is publishing a document on how we can Reclaim the Future.
On the eve of what should be a happy day for many, Labour Youth will be holding a photo opportunity outside Leinster House today at 1pm, to highlight the lack of opportunities currently available for Leaving Cert students.
Labour Youth has today published a new policy document (http://bit.ly/9V4jZM), outlining a comprehensive overview of the motions passed at the National Youth Conferences over the last four years. Speaking at the annual Tom Johnson Summer School, organised by Labour Youth, at Langtons Hotel, Kilkenny
The statistics released today show that the number of young jobseekers on the live register has jumped 6,026 from 85,620 to 91,646. Unemployment amongst Ireland's young is at a shocking 27% and almost nothing has been done by this Fianna Fail/Green government to address this ever growing problem.
Speaking ahead of the rally, Labour Youth Chairperson Rory Geraghty said: "This rally takes place exactly one week on from the release of the banking reports which highlighted how the recession in Ireland was caused by poor domestic planning as opposed to any international crisis which the Government has tried to blame.
Following the disgraceful attack on the aid flotilla travelling to GAZA, in the early hours of this morning, by the Israeli Defence Force, Labour Youth will be adding its voice to the hundreds of thousands across the world in condemning this indefensible behaviour.
