Labour Youth Annual Conference takes place on Friday 6th November at Trinity College Dublin (5.30pm - 10pm) and Saturday 7th November at the Mansion House (10.00am - 9.30pm)
The Labour Youth annual conference takes place this weekend, with over 200 delegates travelling from across the country to attend. The conference will be addressed by Joan Burton TD, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party on Friday evening, and by the Leader of the Labour Party, Eamon Gilmore TD on Saturday evening. Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr. Emer Costello will also address the Conference on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking on the eve of the conference, outgoing Labour Youth Chairperson Gary Honer said: "Labour Youth Conference is set to be one of the largest in the 30 year history of the youth wing, rounding off one of the most successful years Labour Youth has had in recent memory. Our membership has doubled over the last twelve months, to a level last seen before the Spring Tide of 1992, and that success has driven registration of delegates to the Youth Conference to incredibly high levels.
"There are also more contests for National Youth Executive positions than we have seen in many years, with 16 candidates contesting in total. We also have a record 63 motions to be debated (see below), including issues such as the asylum process in Ireland, blasphemy laws, youth unemployment, sustainable farming practices and Oireachtas expenses.
"With members travelling from Tralee and Tipperary, Cork and Cavan, Louth and Limerick, we expect robust debates on all of these topics, as well as tightly-fought elections. We also look forward to welcoming guests from the SDLP and the British Labour Party to our conference.
"I look forward to handing over to a new generation of activists, who can bring Labour Youth to even higher levels in the coming year."
