Trinity College Dublin

Fitzgerald-Thornley Branch

Trinity Labour

Trinity Labour was founded forty years ago, in 1969, and is the oldest Labour youth branch in country. Past members have included Roger Cole, Mark Little and Senator Ivana Bacik. This year our membership doubled and and we hope to build on that by establishing a presence in college and Dublin more broadly that promotes progressive values, holds constructive and effective campaigns and builds on the Gilmore revolution in college.

We shall be holding a series of talks on the direction of politics and society in Ireland and internationally, as well as on immediate issues. Possible topics will include the recent blasphemy laws, lessons from the recession, Palestine, poverty in Ireland and the state of the left in Ireland and Europe. We are also campaigning with Labour Youth to change the current rent deposits system and to launch a drive highlighting Youth Unemployment and opposing unfair budget cutbacks. We will resist any increase in fees and charges in college and are recruiting in college and, as a new initiative, areas around college. However, it is a democratic branch and is what YOU make of it. So if there is an issue you care a lot about and what to change, related to Trinity, Ireland, or further afield; get in touch and make it happen!

We are also celebrating our fortieth birthday this year and which we'll becommemorating early in 2010 with a dinner and reception, inviting all former alumni of the branch.
