I am the Midlands Labour Party's Area Rep for Athlone. I would like to volunteer for this position because I believe the Labour Party is central to both national and local level politics and although the Party has suffered a drop in support in recent years I believe the party is going in the right direction under the new leadership of Alan Kelly. I want to play my part in rebuilding the party and I believe the best opportunity to do that is by becoming an Area Rep. I would bring many skills to the role which include public speaking and ICT skills. I believe having ICT skills is very important for this role as it will help get the party's message out there and that is crucial because without people hearing or seeing the party's message then it will be very hard to gain support and rebuild the party. Labour has always had a strong tradition and presence in Westmeath including in Athlone where the party previously had a council seat until 2014. I think a special focus on local projects and news will help rebuild the party in the Midlands ahead of the next local elections in 2024. Areas like local parks, greenways, anti-dumping and local housing will be issues I would like to look at if I was selected as an area rep.
