Carberry Urges SDCC to Reconsider Development at Ballycullen Park

Aideen Carberry, Labour local area representative for the Firhouse-Bohernabreena Electoral Area, has urged South Dublin County Council to reconsider its position on building a social housing development at Ballycullen Park.
"Having been knocking on doors in the Knocklyon area over the last few weeks, I can say that residents are very concerned about the prospect of Knocklyon United losing their pitches at Ballycullen Park" Carberry said.
"I've met with residents whose own children attend the club; and there is a genuine concern that the potential loss of the pitches will have a major impact on the club and their children's ability to attend training sessions. While I understand that SDCC has offered alternative space for pitches, they won't be at the heart of the Knocklyon community, as they are now in their current location."
"While there can be no doubt that housing must be a priority for the council; and the area does require increased diversity in housing available, this cannot come at the cost of facilities for our young people. The council must strive to create thriving communities as opposed to merely providing housing."
"I'm sure a resolution can be found to satisfy all stakeholders; and I'm calling on SDCC to engage with the residents and Knocklyon United on this matter in order to find one."
