Fair trade tea and coffee for Dublin City Council, Montague
Issued : Monday 25 July, 2005
Dublin City Council's canteens will all provide Fair Trade tea and coffee as a result of a motion proposed by Labour Party Councillor, Andrew Montague. Three of the Council's five canteens have already moved to Fair Trade products and the remaining two canteens are preparing to negotiate new contracts in order to serve Fair Trade refreshments.
"I originally proposed a motion calling on Dublin City Council to support Ballymun's bid to become a Fair Trade Town. The motion was yesterday discussed and received unanimous support at the Council's Financial Development and General Strategic Policy Committee. The committee agreed to extend the policy of supporting Fair Trade products to all of Dublin City Council canteens." stated Cllr Montague.
"I'm delighted that this will help Ballymun become a Fair Trade Town. But I'm even more delighted that it will help farmers in developing countries get a fair price for their products" concluded Cllr Montague.
