Anne is currently a Councillor on Wicklow County Council.

Political Career

  • Co-Opted on to Bray Town Council in January 1995.
  • Elected to Bray Town Council in 1999 and 2004.
  • Co-Opted on to Wicklow County Council in 2003.
  • Elected to Wicklow County Council in 2004 and 2019.
  • Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council 2007/2008 (Only the second woman to hold the position of Cathaoirleach at that time).
  • Cathaoirleach of Bray Council 2001-2002, 2004-2005, 2020-2021.
  • Elected on first attempt to Dáil Éireann in 2011.
  • Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Party, September 2014-2016.
  • Vice Chair of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice & Equality, 2012-2016.


  • Member of the Kildare Wicklow Education & Training Board.
  • Member of the Governing Body of the IADT, Dun Laoghaire.
  • Member of the Bray Local Drug & Alcohol Task Force.
  • Member of the Bray Harbour Joint Development Committee.
  • Member of the Bray Municipal Swimming Pool Committee.
  • Member of Board of Management of Coláiste Ráithín, Bray..
  • Member of Board of Trustees of Open Door, Bray.


  • Educated in Convent of Mercy, Goldenbridge, Inchicore, Dublin.
  • 1989 Diploma in Women's Studies, Maynooth College.
  • 2020 BA in History & English, UCD.
  • 2021 Commence Master’s in Gender Studies, UCD.
