My name is Assumpta Murphy. I am your Local Labour Party Area Representative for Fermoy & Mitchelstown Municipal District.
I grew up and still live in Fermoy. Married to Sean, we have two adult boys. I come from a working class family. I left school at 15 after completing my junior cert and chose hairdressing as a career which I enjoyed for 20 years. I worked in Fermoy Community Hospital as a Care Assistant for 16 years and also acted as Siptu Shop Steward.
My late father John Fitzgerald who was a Labour Councillor in Fermoy Urban District Council instilled in me an interest in policies and beliefs of the Labour movement. Since my teens I have been interested in the Labour Party. I canvassed for the party’s candidates all through the years and now feel I myself can contribute to my community. I am especially interested in working on housing matters in our area. Working with local TD Seán Sherlock, I wish to represent people from all walks of life, and work for the interests of our local community on issues which affect us. I feel having local Labour representatives will be a great help to people who need representation on a local level.
If you feel that something should be done in your area, please contact me and I will do my best to help in any way I can.
