My name is Brian Shanley and I am the Local Area Representative for Dun Laoghaire. I joined the Labour party in December 2015 because I believe this party can do more good for the people of Dun Laoghaire than any other. I grew up in Deansgrange and saw first hand what hard working Labour Councillors and TDs could deliver for their constituents. If there is any issue that you need assistance with, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I want to champion greater investment and coordination of state services for all vulnerable citizens in the constituency of Dun Laoghaire. The elderly, those with special needs and people who are suffering from mental health issues are often voiceless in the political arena, I want to ensure they are put first.
I absolutely support an immediate rent freeze in the constituency as well as a complete review of tenancy rights for renters. I want to see more state funds going to organisations that will assist and protect those in conflict with landlords.
The cost of living for many workers in Dun Laoghaire has gotten out of hand. Those who use public transport should be incentivized to do so. Workers’ pay packets must be taken into account when setting fares. I want to put in place a framework that ensures this happens.
Youth Unemployment & Training
Too many young people are unemployed in the constituency of Dun Laoghaire, training provided by the state must be relevant for the modern job market. Automation is another issue which will affect my generation in the coming years. I want to make sure that this is controlled.
Climate Change & Energy
The goals contained in the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy must be achieved and the Council must strive to do so. Aside from CO2 reduction targets I want to help drive Dun Laoghaire to being the greenest constituency in the state.
