Local tourism to get majhor boost from the 2016 DLR grant scheme
Issued : Tuesday 12 January, 2016
Labour General Election Candidate for Dun Laoghaire, Carrie Smyth has welcomed the allocation of over €450,000 the 2016 DLR Grant Scheme to individuals, groups and organisations throughout Dun Laoghaire Rathdown.
“I am delighted that support is being provided to a range of local festivals and the promotion of businesses in the community.
“Popular festivals including the Ukulele Hooley (€20,000), Dun Laoghaire Coder Dojo (€10,000), the Dalkey Lobster Festival (€5,000) and the Underground Cinema Film Festival (€5,000) to name but a few have all received funding. These events will be the backbone of the tourism calendar for the area and offer a great opportunity to showcase all that Dun Laoghaire has to offer.
“In addition support has been provided for the promotion of local business with funding allocated the Dun Laoghaire Chamber of Commerce (€11,900), the Dun Laoghaire Business Improvement District (€7,950), the Blackrock Business Network and the Cabinteely District Residents & Traders Association (€6,000).
“Festivals play a critical role in encouraging tourism and attracting footfall into communities and local businesses. By awarding funding to these two sections of the community Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council are going a long way to promoting tourism for Dun Laoghaire.
“I look forward to attending these events and seeing this investment in action.”
