Conference notes:
The ongoing need to rebuild and rejuvenate the Party in light of the general election results in 2016, and the particular need to promote elected representatives in the local and national media.
Conference further notes:
That at present due to our parliamentary numbers, members of the Oireachtas are often obliged to act as party spokespersons in respect of several distinct portfolios.
Conference acknowledges:
The valuable and ongoing contribution, both past and present, made to the party by former elected representatives.
Conference further notes:
That at present, the responsibility of acting as party spokesperson is afforded only to members of the Oireachtas and to former elected members of the Oireachtas.
Conference calls on the Party Leader:
To consider assigning portfolios/party spokesperson positions to current elected representatives of the party only, to include City and County Councillors, and that where a portfolio is assigned to a local authority member, that member shall be invited to attend and contribute to Parliamentary Labour Party meetings.
Conference further calls on the Party leader:
To facilitate this policy coming into effect following the summer Oireachtas recess in 2017.
