Conference Motions

Session 1 : Party Affairs:

Motion 3 )

Conference notes that the barriers of ‘Cash, Con dence, Childcare, Culture and Candidate Selection’ outlined in the Bacik report remain signi cant factors impacting women’s participation in the political system.

Conference acknowledges the role of the Labour driven ‘Gender Quota’ legislation in bringing about the historic increase in women’s representation in the Dail from 15% to 22.2% following the 2011 general election.

Conference is mindful of the legal requirement for political parties to reach a gender quota of at least 40% women candidates for any general election occurring after 2023.

Conference calls on the Labour party to ensure that at least 40% of all local area representatives appointed by the party identify as women.

Conference further calls on the Labour Party to ensure that at least 40% of all candidates for the 2019 local elections identify as women.
