Conference Motions

Session 3 : Education & Arts:

Motion 65 )

Conference notes the success of the Junior Certificate School Program Demonstration Library Project and its role in promoting literacy in disadvantaged schools since it was established in 2001.

Conference further notes that only 30 of the 185 DEIS second-level schools have benefited from having a dynamic working library and a qualified librarian.

Conference commends these libraries and their librarians for providing a place that improves the school experience for students and puts books, reading and learning centre stage in the schools.

Conference calls on the Labour Party to campaign for the JCSP Demonstration Library Project to be put on a permanent footing and for it to be expanded to all DEIS second-level schools.
