MEENAGH WELCOMES €10m FUNDING ALLOCATION UNDER ENERGY EFFICIENCY JOBS INITIATIVE
Labour Party Local Area Representative for Cabra, Declan Meenagh, has today welcomed the announcement by Labour Minister for Housing and Planning, Jan O’Sullivan TD, of the first funding allocation under the €50m energy efficiency programme for local authority homes. €10m will be invested this year improving the energy efficiency of some 5,000 local authority homes. Having previously made representations to Minister O’Sullivan, Meenagh said, “Lower energy bills come from such energy efficiency programmes and this investment also improves housing stock and reduces carbon emissions. This has to be welcomed by the many low income families who I am meeting through my local area work.”
“I know Minister O’Sullivan is working closely with her Labour Party colleague Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin TD, to introduce this energy efficiency programme. They are determined to see €50m invested over three years. This will reduce the energy bills of 25,000 families who currently live in local authority houses with very poor insulation. I will work to highlight this programme locally to ensure that many homes in Cabra will benefit from the funding. This funding is part of a wider Government stimulus programme that will see significant investment in schools and roads. Labour is working in Government.”
