MEENAGH WELCOMES 1.4M EURO ENERGY FUNDING FOR LOCAL AUTHORITY HOMES
Labour party Area Representative for Cabra
Friday, 26th July 2013
DECLAN MEENAGH
The Labour Party Area Rep for Cabra, Declan Meenagh, has welcomed the announcement by Labour Minister for Housing and Planning, Jan O’Sullivan TD, of energy efficiency funding for local authority homes. €10m will be invested this year improving the energy efficiency of some 5,000 local authority homes.
“I am delighted to welcome 1.4 Million euro in funding for Dublin City Council. This is the first tranche of funding to be released under the three-year €50m energy efficiency programme for local authority homes, the parameters of which were announced by Minister O’Sullivan back in June.
“It will mean lower energy bills for families who live in local authority houses with very poor insulation. It also means reduced carbon emissions and improved housing stock.
“It is also expected that the energy efficiency programme will create up to 1,000 jobs in the private sector and among community-based organisations, over three years.
“I know that Minister O’Sullivan has worked closely with Minister Brendan Howlin to introduce this energy efficiency programme. It is part of a wider Government stimulus programme that will see significant investment in schools and roads.
“I believe this shows that the Labour Party is spending money in local communities around Ireland and delivering on its commitment to create jobs in the green sector. This investment is good for jobs, good for tenants and good for the environment.”
