MEENAGH SUPPORTS ‘BEYOND THE BAILOUT’ CAMPAIGN

Issued : Friday 13 December, 2013

Labour Area Representative for Cabra, Declan Meenagh, today supported Labour Youth's launch of their Beyond the Bailout Campaign outside Dáil Eireann.

Members of Labour Youth displayed a poster outside the Dáil listing four key economic priorities 1) introduction of a wealth tax 2) implementation of collective bargaining 3) end zero hour contracts 4) introduce a living wage. Labour Youth will be lobbying and campaigning for the Labour Party to implement these policies in the lifetime of this coalition government.

Commenting, Declan Meenagh said: “Economically, we have already had success in restoring the minimum wage and taking the lowest paid out of the Universal Social Charge and socially by giving women the medical treatment they need by legislating for the x case, now we need to focus on helping people in low paid jobs by introducing collective bargaining rights, a living wage and ending the appalling abuse that is zero hour contracts. We also need to introduce a wealth tax to target more social spending.”

“I am proud to be an active member of Labour Youth and I will be helping them in any way I can with this campaign.”
