LANDY WELCOMES FUNDING FOR GREENWAY ROUTE

Issued : Tuesday 18 June, 2013
Areas : Carrick on Suir, Clonmel, Kilsheelan, South Tipperary

Labour Senator Denis Landy has welcomed the €45,000 grant for the development of the Carrick on Suir to Clonmel greenway route. This is a 20km route along the River Suir and links the towns of Carrick on Suir and Clonmel which are also featured in the Butler Trail.

Senator Landy said “This funding will allow a feasibility study to be carried out and for plans to be prepared so as to allow this project to progress to full funding; this project will enhance tourism potential of the full region between Carrick on Suir and Clonmel and will attract many walking visitors to the area and will also provide an amenity for locals”

The funding was provided under the Sustainable Transport Initiative from the Department of Transport under the Minister for State Alan Kelly’s stewardship. “The development of the old tow path between Carrick on Suir and Clonmel has been spoken about for decades but this is the first tangible move towards making this facility into a tourist attraction in this area and I look forward to seeing the project progress over the coming months” said Senator Landy
