Garda Recruitment - "A Major Boost" says Senator Denis Landy

Issued : Tuesday 16 July, 2013
Areas : Templemore, Tipperary, Ireland

The proposal for Government to reopen the Garda training college in Templemore is warmly welcomed by Senator Denis Landy. Senator Landy commented that this will create a fabulous boost for the local economy in Tipperary and will also create valuable jobs for people in this country. He stated that it is vital to keep the numbers of Gardaí stable and that this new recruitment drive will address the falling numbers as a result of retirements and people leaving the force.

“Fresh blood is a vital component to any thriving organisation, this announcement of the recruitment of new Gardaí will be a major morale booster to all currently serving Gardaí in this country, it has always been accepted that Garda numbers should not drop below 13,000 and this recruitment of new trainees will ensure that the numbers remain at this vital figure into the future”

In conclusion Senator Landy said “this is a very strong signal to the criminal element of this country that the Gardaí are going to be evident in greater numbers in communities to tackle and stamp out crime across the country and particularly deal with the recent spate of attacks on vulnerable elderly people in rural parts of the country that have occurred over the last number of months”
