FUNDING BOOST FOR DISABILITY HOUSING WELCOME - LANDY

Issued : Wednesday 3 July, 2013
Areas : Ireland, Tipperary

Labour Senator Denis Landy has welcomed the
announcement by Minister for Housing, Jan O'Sullivan that an additional €10m in
housing funding will be provided for people with a disability.

“By allocating an additional €10m in funding Minister
O'Sullivan has proven that housing needs for people with a disability are a
priority. As Seanad spokesperson on Environment and Local Government, I am
delighted to welcome this announcement as it is vital that we continue to
prioritise the needs of people with a disability.

“Providing a quality living environment that is tailored to the individual's
needs is extremely important to that person's well-being and engagement with
the wider community. Through this allocation, Minister O'Sullivan believes
approximately 80 to 90 extra new homes will be provided this year.

“Local authorities have been asked to submit funding proposals and I look
forward to that process being completed over the next two weeks.”
