Motion: Councillor D. O’Callaghan

That the Manager would now pursue as a matter of some urgency the need to

progress a Coastal Erosion Scheme for the Seafield, Corbawn and Quinn’s Road

areas of Shankill and to outline if an application has been made for funding for such

works and to give a progress report.”

Report:

The Coastal Defence Strategy Study made a number of recommendations in this

area. To date the signage has been erected notifying the public of the sharp drop

and possible falling debris. The wall that was ready to fall onto the beach at Seafield

has been removed and a new railing has been set back from the edge.

In relation to other works in the Seafield, Corbawn and Quinn’s Road areas, the

access to the beach at Corbawn Drive was identified as the next item most in need of

work. An application for funding for the replacement of the access ramp, has been

made to the OPW on two separate occasions, but to date DLR have been

unsuccessful in receiving funding. DLR will continue in their efforts to identify a

funding stream so that works on this access can be progressed.
