Social Housing Strategy Will Tackle Housing Lists in Swords
Issued : Thursday 27 November, 2014
Duncan Smith, Labour Party Cllr for the Swords Electoral Area has welcomed the Social Housing Strategy announced by Minister for Environment Alan Kelly this week.
“At a recent Housing Conference organised by Labour Cllr Ken Farrell, Fingal was described as the anvil on which the housing crisis will be solved. The provision of €3.8 billion in this housing strategy will focus were the housing crisis is the most acute and that is Dublin and Fingal. I met with Minister Kelly this week at the announcement of the strategy and spoke to him of the need for this funding to be focused in areas, such as Swords and Donabate where the housing lists are long and people are waiting nearly ten years to receive a housing offer.
“I will be writing to the Chief Executive requesting information on the Council’s plan to draw down funding from this allocation. The housing crisis in Swords and Fingal is chronic but this Strategy is welcome. We as local representatives need to ensure we see our fair portion of the funding”
