Fingal bike scheme can help regenerate Swords Main Street
Issued : Thursday 1 May, 2014
Duncan Smith, Labour Party Candidate for the Swords Ward, is supporting the implementation of not for profit Fingal Bikes Scheme, to be piloted in Swords, as a means of regenerating Main St.
mith “The primary issue coming up on the doorsteps in Swords is the state of our Main St particularly at the Castle end where many shop units lie vacant. There needs to be a strategy for our Main St as part of an overall regeneration plan for our town. A public bike scheme, supported by local businesses, would encourage travel within our town and would also attract people to our Main Street. Bike Schemes in European towns have been successful in regenerating urban centres and this can happen in Swords and it is something I strongly support.”
Smith “We need creative solutions and I believe a bike scheme would improve the amenity of Swords, promote mobility within our town and it would be a support for future tourism growth. This is a policy I will actively pursue should I be elected in May”
