Stagg Calls on Council to Seek Grants for New Liffey Bridge in Celbridge
Issued : Wednesday 1 November, 2017
Areas : Celbridge
Kildare North Labour Representative Emmet Stagg has called on Kildare Co. Council to seek funding for the construction of a New Liffey Bridge for Celbridge under the Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund which saw an additional €62 Million allocated to the Scheme in Budget 2018.
The Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund stated Mr. Stagg saw grants of €15,375,000 provided for the Naas Inner Relief Road and Maynooth Eastern Relief Road last March.
Mr. Stagg has now been advised by the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government that a second call for proposals under LIHAF is likely in early 2018 and it will be open to all local authorities to submit new projects or resubmit previous projects for consideration at that time.
A New Liffey Bridge in Celbridge was included in the last application for funding by Kildare Co. Council but was unsuccessful.
With further funding now available Kildare North Labour Representative Emmet Stagg is calling on the Council to include the New Liffey Bridge in Celbridge as its priority project under the second call in early 2018 to once and for all deal with the traffic congestion in Celbridge.

17th JUNE, 2017 - Stagg Welcomes Council's Move to Progress New Bridge for Celbridge
Kildare North Labour Representative Emmet Stagg has welcomed the move by Kildare Co. Council to prepare a Business Case for the delivery of a second river crossing for Celbridge.
Mr. Stagg stated that following discussions between officials in the Department of Transport and the Roads Department in Kildare Co. Council on the future delivery of a second river crossing in Celbridge, the Council will now prepare a Business Case for the project which will outline the objectives, scope, feasibility, options appraisal, planning, design, evaluation plan and recommendations for the project.
The need for a second river crossing in Celbridge is obvious stated Mr. Stagg and can be seen at the peak hour traffic times every day. The lack of a second bridge is having a negative effect on the growth of Celbridge.
Kildare North Labour Representative Emmet Stagg praised Councillors and Council Officials in the Roads Department for moving the project forward. It’s only the beginning but it’s important that this project becomes a priority for the Council.
