Stagg Remains Critical of Delay in Progressing New School for St. Corban's NS

Issued : Monday 30 October, 2017
Areas : Naas

Kildare North Labour Representative Emmet Stagg has again raised with the Minister for Education and Skills the reason for the delay in deciding on whether or not St. Corban's National School, Naas, is to be refurbished extensively or if a New School is to be built, which is the preferred option of all involved with the school.

The Minister has advised Mr. Stagg that the Project Brief is currently being finalised for St. Corban's National School and once completed, this will facilitate the project to be progressed into Architectural Planning, which will include the appointment of a Design Team.

Commenting on the response Kildare North Labour Representative Emmet Stagg stated that whilst it looks like we are nearing a conclusion as to the way forward, he was critical of the continued delay in advising the school authorities given that the school was included in the Departments Capital Programme in 2015.

Mr. Stagg stated that he visited the school in June and met with the Principal John Drewett. With 500 pupils and given the state of the current school, it is clear that a New State of the Art School is required, and that is what should be provided.

In conclusion Kildare North Labour Representative Emmet Stagg stated that he would pursue the provision of a New School for St. Corban's National School further with the Minister for Education.
