Cork East Labour Party local election candidate Eric Nolan has welcomed the fall in the latest Live Register Figure. Eric says 'I'm please to see the level of unemployment is continuing to fall. I have met so many people who cannot find work while canvassing. For them figures in a newspaper will provide little solace. Many people have explained how hopeless they feel. How difficult it is to be unable to provide for their families. I'm not pretending that we are anywhere close to a solution. But the continued improvement is cause for hope.
Unemployment in Cork has fallen by 8.75%, in that figure Youghal is down by 5.52% and Midleton is down by 7.27%. As unemployment falls so does the amount the state pays out in unemployment benefit. The tax take also increases. This has the effect of freeing up more money for the state to use on creating further employment. The momentum of this is what will fuel the recovery. I know to many it doesn't feel like it, but our economy is turning around. From the position the last government left us in, that is an achievement. The price has been high. We have all shared in the recession. A recession for which most of us are blameless. It is vital that we ensure that we all share in the recovery. If elected I will actively work towards a fairer Ireland. We must learn from the collapse and not allow the same so called elite to profit while the rest of us struggle.'
