Waterways Planning Permission Granted
KCC have granted planning permission to CWGS Investments Ltd. for a 55 bed Aparthotel and gym to be developed in the building previously earmarked for an hotel and the change of use to offices in building where creche had been permitted (see photo).
Community Amenities Delay
KCC have not indicated any intention of starting a consultation or planning process on the 33 acres acquired for our community amenities in December 2016. This is unacceptable. Sallins Community Council will be holding a Public Meeting on this issue in Sallins school at 8 p.m. on Monday September 17th. Speakers from other communities that have developed such sites will present their ideas and recommendations and we will discuss our next steps.
KCC have approved planning for the development of 29 new houses in Castlefen. These will be built and managed by Túath Housing Association.
Construction will soon commence in Oldbridge Estate on a new Scout Den for Sallins Scout Unit. This is a very exciting development for an excellent community organisation.
In July, Councillors finally approved the construction of a playground on a site between the church and school. It is five years since I met with the parish priest to urge him to allow church lands to be used for this amenity; thankfully, the Parish recently concluded an agreement with KCC.
Naas Community College: 16 contractors have sent an Expression of Interest for the construction of the new school at Millennium Park. The Design Team are assessing these and when this is completed it will proceed to tender.
SallinsTrain Station Car Park expansion: This is now entering the planning and design phase, with planning permission likely to be sought in September..
Permission has been granted by KCC for the developments below:
- · The renovation, extension and change of use of the Market House (the long-vacant Protected Structure beside Naas library) to new restaurant and public house.
· Amendoeria Developments for 1,384 plots and 30 car parking spaces at Bodenstown church and cemetery.
Maxol Ltd. intend to apply to KCC for permission to extend their garage and facilities on the Sallins Road. This includes a seating area in the shop, additional fuel pumps, an additional car wash and increased parking.
I have been chairing meetings of the Road Safety Group since Winter 2017. We have researched the issues, identified priorities and solutions and will be meeting with officials from KCC in the coming weeks. Our two main priorities are traffic calming measures at the entrances to Sallins and the provision of safe school bus stops and bus bays. Progress may be challenging as KCC have argued that no improvements in our roads or footpaths should be carried out before the Bypass is completed. I don’t accept this and will be arguing for short and medium term improvements so as to ensure our children’s safety.
Canal Greenway Progress
Sallins Community Council have been lobbying KCC to create a Greenway along the grand canal for several years. As a result, it was included as an objective in the most recent Local Area Plan for Sallins.
KCC have just informed me that they have “actively engaged” with Waterways Ireland, South Dublin County Council (SDCC) and Offaly County Council with a view to delivering a 117 km Greenway from Dublin to the Shannon. SDCC will be working on its section soon and KCC have signed a Section 85 Agreement with them to allow SDCC to work on a 500 m stretch that is in County Kildare. We welcome this progress but call on KCC to outline a timeframe in which it will do its part to deliver this relatively uncomplicated but hugely beneficial project.
