An Post Mailing Centre- a missed oppurtunity for Clonard.

The constuction of a new mailing centre in Whitemill Industrial Estate has been hailed as a 'glorious missed oppurtunity' for the community of Clonard in Wexford Town by Labour Councillor George Lawlor
"For many many years there have been calls for the people of Clonard to be offorded a postal facility to serve the population there. Time and time again this has been denied to them with An Post saying that it was not a viable proposition. Now however, we see An Post purchasing land and constructing a major premises in the heart of Clonard but only to facilitate mail coming in and out. The public will not be able to use this fine facility and this I believe is not only a great shame but a glorious missed oppurtunity by An Post management" said Councillor Lawlor.
"This premises has two things going for it that would make opening it to the general public and business a viable proposition. Firstly it is situated in the heart of one of the most populated areas of County Wexford let alone Wexford Town. The population of Clonard currently stands at 12,000 people. This represents a bigger population than towns like Enniscorthy and New Ross. This population base provides a ready made customer base for An Post in an area that will only continue to grow in the future. Secondly, it is situated in the biggest industrial estate in County Wexford with easy access to the ring roads and places like Drinagh and its associated businesses. I have no doubt that business and industry of the area would greatly welcome the opening up of this building for general use"
"The opening of this facility to the public at large would provide an easily accessible essential service to the people and business of this constantly expanding area. I am urging An Post to use a bit of common commercial sense on this matter. People are being forced down to the already congested Anne Street to the GPO for the what could be easily done on their doorstep. It is not rocket science to suggest that this could be a very successful venture for An Post and would make life a whole lot easier for the people of Clonard and surrounding areas" concluded Councillor Lawlor
