My name is Geraldine Mills. I am your Local Labour Party Area Representative in Athlone.
You can contact me on any local matters. Working with Longford/Westmeath TD Willie Penrose, I look forward to addressing the needs of our community and bringing about positive changes to our town. My role as the local representative for Labour is to engage with people, listen to the issues that are of most concern to them, and ensure that these are passed on to those who are best placed to deliver results, including our hardworking and effective Longford/Westmeath TD Willie Penrose.
Athlone has some great facilities yet we need to get more industry and valuable jobs to the area. As a mother of two and a past commuter, I care about the areas of health, education and low pay. Having worked with Athlone Post Office and DPD, bringing a fair share of jobs to Athlone is important. The needs of 20,000 residents of the town must to be represented. The Town Council is gone for now but the needs are still there, and I and my colleagues Athlone want to play our part.
Throughout my life, I have been passionate about equality, particularly equality of opportunity. I value my involvement with local schools and roles with organisations such as Concern and Family Carers Ireland.
The Labour Party Branch in Athlone is small in number, but big on commitment. The more people we have, the more we can do, so I would encourage anyone who is interested in the future of Athlone to consider joining the party, or to volunteer for a few hours whenever it suits.
I applied to join the James Connolly, Athlone Branch of the Labour Party almost 15 years ago. Since then I have been priviliged to be involved in local campaigns, as well as canvassing for our candidates in local and national elections. I was also involved in the memorable and exciting Presidential campaign for Michael D Higgins.
I look forward to working with my fellow members in the coming months to address the needs of our community and listening to you.
